Time to plant fruit trees

Deciduous Fruit Trees
Winter is the traditional planting time for bare rooted deciduous Fruit Trees.

Most Apples, Pears, Plums and Cherries require at least 2 compatible varietes for pollination but in recent years some self pollinating varieties have emerged such as 'Starkrimson' Cherry and 'All in One' Almond. Suitable tree varieties are important and sound Horticulture advice will ensure you are satisfied with your choice.

Prune your trees to produce better fruit by encouraging more fruiting spurs and allowing light into the tree. Cut out the old wood from mature trees. Apples and Pears are produced on second year and older fruiting wood, while Peaches and Nectarines produce on last seasons growth.

Spray trees with Lime Sulphur and Pest Oil to kill fungal spores and insects, and  with Fungus Fighter at spring bud burst for Curley leaf and shothole(both summer diseases).
